Danny Elfman - Batman: Complete orchestral score| Size : 518.57 MBTim Burton's "Batman" (1989) was the beginning of quite a few things. It heralded a wave of superhero blockbusters that is still going to this day. It became the role model of a number of new business and marketing concepts in Hollywood. And while Burton and Danny Elfman had collaborated twice before - and would continue to do so decades later - "Batman" made both of them superstars. Like the film, Elfman's score is dark, gothic, operatic and quirky. And it prompted a debate among critics and fellow composers that still hasn't ended: Is it really possible that "that rock guy" composed this? The score sheets The complete (729 pages) handwritten full orchestral score for the movie, composed by Danny Elfman and orchestrated by Shirley Walker, Steve Bartek and Steven Scott Smalley. A handwritten Batman Suite orchestral score (92 pages) is included to complement the score, and possibly provide some hints at harder to read bits of the original. Adapted for performance by Christopher Bankey. Both PDFs include bookmarks for each cue/theme. Note that MyAnonamouse also has an engraved version of the Main Titles available. Danny Elfman's Batman: A Film Score Guide A very insightful and well-researched 192 page analysis and discussion of the score, written by Janet K. Halfyard. It covers the historical context of comics, film and score; delves deep into the cues, motifs, and compositional techniques; and also discusses Elfman's background and his sometimes controversial career within the Hollywood system. The book is included in PDF (scanned pages) and EPUB format (searchable text). Complete soundtrack The audio is based on a lossless EAC FLAC rip of the 2010 Limited Archival 2CD Edition of the soundtrack - which contains restorations of the music as heard in the film itself (as opposed to the different edits and mixes on the official soundtrack). The tracks included here are, however, not identical to the 2010 release. Most of Disc 2 (a remaster of the official soundtrack) has been left out, since it is widely available and - due to edits - not as useful for score analysis. Also, while the audio has been left completely untouched, tracks have been renamed, reordered and some have been split up to ease listening along with the score. Cues 11m5 and 12m1 have been replaced with a track from the 2011 Burton/Elfman 25th Anniversary "Music Box" set, since the "Archival" track fades out before the cue ends. Note that the following unused cues have not been released in any form, and have all been marked "[no rec.]" in the score bookmarks:
- Three alternate versions of 4m1 - "Stair Kiss"
- Alternate ending for 2m2 - "Up Building"
- Alternate version of 9m3 - "Descent Into Mystery"
- 5m4 - "Morning After"
- 6m1 - "Board Meeting"
- 9m2 - "Vicki Hides"
- 10m1 - "The Truth"
- 11m1 - "... Or Their Sons"
